The "Citizens to Save the Rock Hill Church" is dedicated to saving the historic Rock Hill Church structure by moving it to another site in Rock Hill, Missouri. The church, which has stood at the corner of Manchester & McKnight/Rock Hill Roads since 1845, will be demolished this spring unless funds can be raised to relocate it. Rock Hill church started as an integrated place of worship where blacks and whites worshipped and were buried together. It continued with this ideal through the Civil War, Jim Crow laws, and legalized segregation. Today this church is a symbol of the integration and diversity we strive for not just in Rock Hill, but the entire nation. The presbytery which owned the property has no further need of this structure and so has sold the site to a developer who plans to build a gas station & convenience store.
Unfortunately, insufficient funds were raised to move the church. The historic Rock Hill Church has been demolished. It is a great loss to our community.
